Slight update

Rob and I spent last weekend driving around the 909 visiting family. First we drove to Temecula to visit my cousin, her husband, and her 4 year old son. That was a lot of fun, walking around the mall and Target looking at baby items and maternity clothes. I'm already in maternity jeans but only because I can't hold my gut in anymore and traditional waistbands cut into me. I bought a pair of size 14 jeans from Old Navy, thinking they would work, but really it just looked like I had really baggy jeans on and they fell down constantly. So the maternity jeans were definitely the way to go! I also had to buy a bathing suit since (A) mine is in WC with Rob and (B) I probably wouldn't fit into it at this point anyway.

After all that, we drove to Hemet to visit with Rob's family, which was great. Lots of homemade food (chips and dip, salsa, hamburgers, salad, cobblers, pies) which is music to a pregger's ears... assuming it's what she's craving ;) We swam in the pool and hung out in the jacuzzi (don't worry, I wasn't in there long and it was colder than bath water), ate dinner, and played Trivial Pursuit. It was great to see Rob's family again. Hadn't seen them in about 10 years and they seriously haven't changed somehow! I definitely felt welcomed and there was no weirdness. Rob and I have come to the conclusion that the "weirdness" we were worried about was all in our heads :)

We drove back to my cousin's house at about 1030pm and slept. The next morning we all went to breakfast (of which I could only eat half) and then hung out at the house. Ironincally, as Rob pointed out, my cousin's husband had run a 10K race that morning, but my cousin and I were the ones napping in the living room after breakfast LOL! We woke up just in time for Rob and I to take off for LAX to get him to his flight on time. We nearly missed it... or so we thought... when he got there, it was delayed. I went to work right afterwards and thought I was going to pass out.

I'm really glad that our weekends are going to be slowing down now. Next weekend we have a wedding to attend (for which I'm doing the hair) on Saturday, but Sunday is a free day. Therefore we can sleep in and just go to Target and register for things :D The weekend after that, I move! I can't believe it's happening so fast. But I'm definitely ready, and I know Rob is too.

For those of you asking for pictures of me on this blog: I would be happy to help however I rarely take photos of myself (unless they are for Rob, and you don't want to see those). I am also debating as to whether I should suck my gut in, so you can see that at 9 weeks I'm not really showing yet, or if I should let it out, so you can think "My god! Is she sure she's only 9 weeks???" Lemme know what you think via comments and I'll take pictures accordingly.

First visit

So we had our first ObGyn visit yesterday and everything went really well. I really like the doctor and her whole staff. The office is really beautifully decorated (you feel like you're in someone's home rather than a sterile, cold doctor's office) and everyone was patient and friendly with us, since we're new at this and all.

She had to do an internal ultrasound since I'm less than 10 weeks (there goes the "no KY Jelly" rumor out the window) and, although it was uncomfortable, it was so worth it to see the baby's heart beating!!! She took pictures of everything and will be sending them via email. Once I get them, I will post them here. She said the uterine walls looked thick and the yolk sac was nice and big and the baby is 8 weeks and 2 days along now! Insane... I'm 2 months pregnant! How odd is this??

Now all I have to do is move!! Hahahaha

BTW, for those of you I told we were going to name a girl "Prudence Alexa", my mom kept calling it "Violet" and it stuck LOL... the middle name is probably going to be Isobel (pronounced like Isabelle). Dunno why the boy's name was so easy to come up with and why we're flip flopping on the girl so much. Maybe because it knows it's going to be a girl and wants to make sure we get it right? :)

Movin on up

Yesterday we got everything into the Uhaul (special thanks to Rob's nephew Josh and his best friend Ricky, not to mention Sara and Mick for their help) and Rob drove it up to WC. He got home at about 10:30pm and was exhausted (poor thing) but now all of my stuff is now up there and will be when I move in 3 weeks from today. God... 3 weeks, that's it!!! So bizarre.

The baby is still making me ill (no surprise) and I'm anxious to get through this first trimester just so food doesn't make me gag anymore. I went to Shannon's house last night to do a run through on her wedding hair and she made empanadas. They were REALLY good, but no matter how much I thought I loved them, I still felt ill on the way home. Pretty much sucks.

I have my first ObGyn appointment tomorrow in WC. Flying out at 9am and I return at about 9am the next day and go straight to work... oh joy :P Speaking of work, they've given me the go ahead to start taking Sundays off if I want to so I can have 3 day weekends from now til when I leave. That would be great since I'm in desperate need of some rest in all this.

Will post on Tuesday night about the doctor's appointment.

For the record, and in case I haven't told some of you, I have no intention of finding out the sex before the baby is born, so don't bother asking ;) As of right now, if it's a boy his name will be Declan Joseph Crawford (Rob chose Declan after Elvis Costello, plus he wants to be able to call him "Decker" after Harrison Ford in Blade Runner LOL. Joseph being my maiden name.). If it's a girl, we're toying with Violet Eleanor Crawford (Violet being my great-grandmother's sister's name and Eleanor being my grandmother's name). I don't think Rob is keen on the Eleanor bit yet, but we'll see!.

"Holy fucking shit"

The subject of this entry is a direct quote from one of my best friends of 22 years. It's what he said when I first told him I was pregnant... and he repeated it... a lot.

Don't get me wrong, it mirrors my sentiments exactly, but I've had a couple of weeks to calm down and I feel more like "Wow... this is really happening!" than anything else.

So, I suppose I should bring everything current firstly.

I found out I was pregnant the night of Sunday, August 19, 2007. At that point, I was about 22 days along and had only taken one test, which turned instantly positive. When it turned positive, I looked at it, called to one of the girls I worked with, and waited. She came in, looked at the test, then at me. "What?" she says. I say "Look at that..." She yells, "IT'S NOT MINE!" LOL I said "I know it's not yours, dummy, it's MINE! And it's positive!" She screeched, grabbed my wrists, and said "Let's go smoke!!" ... So I did ;)

The next morning, I took two more tests of different brands at the same time, just to be sure. Like the first one was a false positive... right. Of course, the other 2 were positive as well. I called the father and told him the news...

my baby daddy, Rob

He was shocked, but not too shocked (we hadn't exactly been careful), but ultimately very happy. I had taken tests before, after sleeping with him, and they had been negative, and we agreed that we were both about 85% happy about it so I knew he wouldn't freak out about this one being positive. Then I told my best friend, Heather, who was so happy she nearly cried :) After that, I told the girls at work that day and none of them quite knew how to react. Once I told all of them that I was happy, they were happy too. I mean, given my circumstances, that's pretty much the way everyone has reacted when I've told them; Shocked but ultimately very happy for me... so I'll "skip to the end", as Tim from Spaced says.

In the last few weeks, I have...

  • Found out I was pregnant
  • Quit caffeine, smoking, and alcohol cold turkey
  • Been weened off my meds
  • Got engaged
  • Moved in with my parents
  • Gave 1 month's notice at my job

It's been insane but, thanks to the "baby euphoria", I'm doing ok with all of it. Tuesday and Wednesday I packed up all of my things at the apartment and set them aside so that I could move them into a Uhaul truck for Rob to drive to Walnut Creek this weekend. I will be moving up there to live with him as of Sept. 29... only a few short weeks away. I do love the bay area and look forward to being so close to San Francisco, but I've always lived in the same town as my parents so this will be a very new experience for all of us.

So... baby stuff. I have a pregnancy diary that I am too sick to my stomach to read. I'm already nauseous 24/7 (regardless of whether I've just eaten, am too full, or have an empty stomach) so reading about things like "nasal pits" and "ear swellings" and "the intestines forming inside the umbilical cord" is just too much for my poor tummy. So instead I've been reading a hilarious and down-to-brass-tacks book called The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy. I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about becoming pregnant. It tells it like it is and makes you crack up in the meantime.

I've gained a few inches in my waist, even though I'm only 6 1/2 weeks along, mostly due to water retention and not having the energy to hold my gut in anymore ;) I have my first ObGyn appointment on Monday afternoon up in WC (stop giggling, you Brits) and will be sure to let you all know how it goes. Rumor has it there will be no KY jelly involved.
